What line art looks like

Line art is the outline on its own. Weight varies deliberately — heavier where a form turns away from the light or where two shapes overlap, lighter on interior detail — and shading, if present, is limited to a few hatch marks. With no colour to carry the image, the drawing lives or dies on where the lines are placed.

What it is good for

Colouring pages, tattoo references, logo and icon exploration, and base sketches you intend to paint over. It is also the clearest style for showing structure, which makes it useful as a reference before committing to a fully rendered version.

How it differs from anime and cartoon

Anime and cartoon both add flat colour on top of their outlines; line art stops at the outline. If your line art comes back with colour fills, say black and white or uncoloured explicitly.
